Description

Prayer Rope with 50 Knots in Black Color and Openable Cross

This particular prayer rope is an authentic monastic handcraft, consisting of 50 knots. At the end, there is an openable cross, and a woven, discreet cross in the middle. It is made by Athonite monks as part of the ministry they have taken on, with great care and love. Prayer handicrafts are the most well-known monastic handicrafts, in accordance with the tradition of Mount Athos. The monks use the proceeds from the sale of prayer ropes and other handicrafts to cover their livelihood or to carry out maintenance work in their cells and hermitages.

Prayer Rope: Usage

The prayer rope usually consists of 33 or 100 knots, but it can also be larger with 200 or 300 knots.

It is an essential tool for prayer used by monks, clergy, and laypeople. Specifically, each time a prayer (usually short) is recited, one knot is counted. This way, the number of repetitions or the passage of time can be tracked.

According to Christian tradition, prayer ropes originated with Saint Pachomius in 320 AD. Specifically, Saint Pachomius began to search for a way to help the monks focus during prayer. It was then that the Archangel Gabriel appeared to him in a dream and showed him how to create the tool that would serve the needs of prayer. Thus, the prayer rope was created as a gift from God to mankind.
