This bracelet is made from the seeds of the “Tears of the Virgin Mary” plant, which grows on Mount Athos. Tradition has it that this plant sprouted beneath Christ’s cross, from the tears of the Virgin Mary as she mourned the suffering and loss of her only Son. However, there is also a second version of the story. According to this, a monk was sorrowful because he couldn’t learn how to weave prayer ropes. The Virgin Mary appeared to him and asked why he was upset, and he responded: “I cannot learn to weave prayer ropes.” Then the Virgin Mary gave him the seeds of this plant and told him, “Take my tears, cultivate them, and make prayer beads. And say: Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me. Holy Mother of God, save us.”
