A wonderful wood-carved amulet from Mount Athos with a relief representation of Panagia Zoodochos Pigi.

Panagia Zoodochos Pigi

The Mother of Christ as Life-giving Source is an epithet of the Virgin Mary. It began to be used when the Byzantine emperor Leo I (457-474) built the historic church of Zoodochos Pigi in Baloukli, Constantinople, at the spot where, at the suggestion of the Virgin Mary, he found a sacred spring  in which numerous miraculous healings were performed over the centuries, with Her intercession, making it one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Greek Orthodoxy.

Zoodochos Pigi is celebrated on Easter Friday.
