A wonderful wood-carved amulet from Mount Athos with a relief representation of Panagia Portaitissa.

Panagia Portaitissa

This amulet from Mount Athos bears a representation of Panagia Portaitissa. The original icon is located in the Holy Monastery of Iviron and according to tradition, it is the work of Luke the Evangelist, while  it was miraculously presented to the fathers of the Monastery, shortly after its completion. The monks saw a pillar of fire starting from the depths of the sea and reaching the sky. This miracle continued for days until the voice of the Virgin Mary was heard asking the abbot to walk on the sea and take her icon.
