Description

Carved Wooden Hanging Amulet with Saint Irene Chrysovalantou

A wonderful wood-carved amulet from Mount Athos with a relief representation of Agia Irini Chrysovalantou.

It is an elegant & handy handiwork made in linden or cherry wood, by monks with great skill in wood processing. In a relatively small size and with a well-thought-out construction (thanks to the cord on top), it can be placed anywhere in the house, in the car or even in a bag, so that the believer feels that he always has the Grace and protection of the Saint close to him.

At the same time, it can be a very beautiful gift for the people we love.

On the back is the exact name of the representation.

Agia Irini Chrysovalantou (28 July)

Saint Irene lived in the 9th century AD, during the reign of Empress Theodora. She came from Cappadocia and was distinguished both for her piety, her beauty and her noble upbringing. According to Christian tradition, her gifts attracted a distinguished man, who asked for Irene in marriage and then set off for Constantinople.

On the way, however, passing by the Monastery of Chrysovalantou, the interaction with the nuns liked her to such an extent that she decided to stay with them. She returned to her homeland, sold her belongings helping many poor people, while the rest of the money was donated to the Monastery. She rejected worldly things and became a nun, living an ascetic life, and was later appointed abbess.
