Wooden Hanging Amulet with Saint Irene Chrysovalantou

A beautiful carved amulet from Mount Athos featuring a relief depiction of Saint Irene Chrysovalantou.

This is an elegant and practical handcrafted piece made from linden or cherry wood by monks skilled in woodwork. With a relatively small size and a well-thought-out design (thanks to the cord at the top), it can be placed anywhere in the home, in the car, or even inside a bag, so that the faithful can always feel the Grace and protection of the Saint nearby.

It can also serve as a lovely gift for our loved ones.

On the back, the exact name of the depiction is inscribed.

Saint Irene Chrysovalantou (July 28)

Saint Irene lived in the 9th century AD, during the reign of Empress Theodora. She was from Cappadocia and was known for her piety, beauty, and noble upbringing. According to Christian tradition, her virtues attracted the attention of a distinguished man, who asked for her hand in marriage, and together they began their journey to Constantinople.

However, during their journey, when passing by the Monastery of Chrysovalantou, her interaction with the nuns was so appealing that she decided to stay with them. She returned to her homeland, sold her belongings to help many poor people, and donated the remaining money to the monastery. She rejected worldly life and became a nun, living an ascetic life, and later was appointed abbess.
