Saint Paraskevi (July 26)
Saint Paraskevi was born in Rome during the reign of Emperor Antoninus (138 – 160 AD). She was the daughter of the devout Christian couple Agathon and Politeia, who had promised God they would raise their child in the Christian faith if He granted them a child. Because she was born on a Friday, she was named Paraskevi (which means “Friday” in Greek).

After the death of her parents, Paraskevi distributed all her wealth to the poor and carried out missionary work in Rome and its outskirts, preaching the word of Christ. Her actions angered the pagan Emperor Antoninus, who arrested her. Seeing her steadfast faith, he subjected her to tortures, which she endured with great patience.
