Handmade Stamp for Prosphoros

It is made as a handiwork by Father Damaskinos in the Holy Skete of Saint Basil in Kafsokalyvia. Carved entirely by hand on poplar wood, with deep engraving, thick perimeter and symbolism that faithfully follows the authentic Orthodox semantics. Poplar wood is of excellent quality and suitable for food contact. On the back it has a handle for easy use, which is decorated with a carved cross with Byzantine script “JESUS CHRIST NIKA” and carved script “MOUNT ATHOS”.

Seal for Mount Athos – Symbolism

Prosphoros is the bread we offer in the Temple for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Along with the wine, as Holy Gifts (bread and wine), before being transported by the Great Entrance to the Altar, they are placed in the Prosthesis (pre + tithimi = prepose), where with the ceremony of the Proskomidi they will prepare for the Divine Liturgy.

The round design of Prosphoros symbolizes the belly of the Virgin Mary, from where her only-begotten Son came (was born). On Prosforos there is a relief pattern, formed by a seal.

From the center of Prosphoros comes the Lamb, i.e. the central square of the design with the letters: IS XS NI KA (Jesus Christ wins). These letters must be clearly visible and visible. It is called the lamb because the prophet Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah like a harmless lamb would be led to sacrifice.

The plan of the prosphoros also contains the portion of the Virgin Mary with the letters M and Th, that is, Mother of God. The triangular portion of the Virgin Mary is placed to the right of the Lamb.

From the 9 triangles, located on the right side of the offering, the portions of angels and all saints are extracted and placed to the left of the Lamb. From other parts of the expedient are extracted the portions for the living and the departed, who belong to the Orthodox Church.

Seal for Mount Athos Fertile – Guarding Tips

Seals should be stored in a case and away from moisture. They should not be wetted or oiled. To clean the seal of any dough residue, use a toothpick and a small brush.
