Description

Wooden Seal for Koliva

A wooden seal for koliva featuring the Christogram. The seal is an essential tool for decorating koliva, and this particular one includes two handles for easy placement on the wheat. Koliva is one of the oldest Christian traditions, prepared on Soul Saturdays and whenever we wish to hold a memorial service in the church for the repose of our beloved departed.

What Koliva Symbolize

According to the Church, koliva symbolize the common resurrection of humankind. In fact, each ingredient used in koliva holds its own symbolism. Specifically, the wheat represents the souls, the blanched almonds symbolize the bare bones, and the nuts represent life that is reproduced, while the breadcrumbs and flour symbolize the light earth. For Christians, the pomegranate symbolizes the radiance of Paradise, the spices are the fragrances of this world, the raisins represent the sweetness of life as well as Christ, who is the vine, and the sugar symbolizes the sweet Paradise.
