Wooden seal for kollyva with depictions of Saints. The seal is an essential tool for decorating the kollyva, and this particular one also has two handles for easy placement on the wheat. Kollyva is one of the oldest Christian traditions, prepared during the Psychosavva (Memorial Saturdays) and whenever we wish to perform a memorial service in the church for the repose of our beloved departed ones.

What Kollyva Symbolize

According to the Church, kollyva symbolize the general resurrection of humanity. Each ingredient used in the kollyva has its own symbolism. Specifically, wheat represents the souls, blanched almonds represent the bare bones, dried fruits symbolize life that is renewed, while the crushed rusks and flour represent the light soil. The pomegranate symbolizes the glory of Paradise for Christians, spices are the fragrances of this world, raisins represent the sweetness of life and Christ, who is the vine, and sugar symbolizes the sweet Paradise.
