The Incense from the Sacred Hilandarian Cell of the Holy Archangels is a 100% authentic monastic product. It is made with personal care and much prayer by Monk Paisios. Its preparation requires hard work, as the incense goes through several stages before it reaches its final form.

Incense and Symbolism

The incense symbolizes our prayer that reaches the throne of God. It is placed inside the censer on a lit charcoal. Just as the charcoal burns, the incense heats up, melts, and releases its wonderful fragrance.

The smoke and aroma rise high and symbolize the prayer of the Christian, which, when offered with the warmth of the heart, ascends to heaven and reaches God the Father.

The offering of incense is a command of God, dating back to the Old Testament. This blessed custom is an element of Orthodox tradition and worship. “Let my prayer be set before You as incense,” is mentioned in the second verse of Psalm 141, which is read every evening during the Vespers service.

Incense offering is not only performed in the church during the services. Every Christian at home should also keep this beautiful and blessed tradition so that their prayer may be heard by God.

How to Use:

Light the charcoal inside the censer and let it burn for about 4-5 minutes, until it turns from black to almost gray. Then carefully place 1, 2, or 3 grains of frankincense on top.

One grain of frankincense symbolizes the One and Only God, two grains symbolize the dual nature of our Lord Jesus Christ—God and Man (Theanthropos), and three grains represent the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Use the censer to spread incense throughout your space with open windows, allowing the smoke to carry away any negative energy.
