The candle symbolizes the Light of Christ and the flame of faith, as well as the love and peace that should characterize every Christian. It illuminates when it burns and comforts the person with its light in the darkness. The pure beeswax from which it is made represents the purity that our soul should have.

When the faithful enter the church, they should light a candle on the lampstand, one for the living and one for the departed, saying a few words of prayer, asking for God’s mercy and compassion.

Beeswax is known by beekeepers as the “gold of the bee” and began to be used as a raw material for candles during the Middle Ages. These particular candles stand out for their quality and are made using the traditional technique employed by the monks on Mount Athos. It is worth noting that this substance is secreted by the glands of worker bees. Specifically, they produce white wax, which is then processed, gaining its characteristic yellow or brownish-yellow color as pollen and propolis, among other substances, are added. A total of 300 components have been found and isolated in beeswax.
