Aged iconostasis with the Crucifixion on natural aged wood

A special iconostasis with the representation of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which was created with wood of natural ageing.

In its center we see the Cross, while around it angels can be seen and at the same time there are scenes from events that preceded the cross martyrdom. The Cross of martyrdom occupies the largest part, while below and to its right is the Virgin Mary and to the left is Jesus’ favorite disciple and apostle, St. John the Theologian.

The Crucifixion of Christ is characterized as the supreme sacrifice, an act of love without precedent by Jesus towards all mankind. This is why the cross is considered the main symbol of the Orthodox Church and the Christian religion in general, as it recalls the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the salvation of people through His Passion and death. It therefore symbolizes both Christ Himself and the faith of Christians.

The whole composition respects the age of the wood and reflects in the most faithful way the Byzantine tradition of Mount Athos. Each iconostasis is unique as is the wood on which it was created.
