Antique Iconostasis with the Virgin Mary Sweetness of the Angels

The Sweetening of the Angels is a hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos, to whom the entire Athonite State is dedicated. “The sweetness of the angels, of the sorrowful the joy”, is characteristically mentioned in one of the hymns of the Fifteenth of August. The Sweetness of the Angels is the Virgin Mary, who causes joy, joy and fulfillment because she is the one who brought Jesus Christ into the world. In this icon, the Virgin Mary embraces Christ, while two angelic figures can be seen above. The representation of the Most Holy Theotokos is one of the favorite subjects of the monks of Mount Athos, who in this way show their unlimited faith and love.

This iconostasis is entirely made of pieces of wood, which come from a restored cell of Mount Athos. These are woods, which were preserved with the processing techniques used by the monks for the wooden iconostasis of the temples and then used again. Each of the iconostases created by the monks is unique, as unique are the pieces of wood of which it is composed. An elegant iconostasis for every house made by Mount Athos fathers from the collection of “Mount Athos Heritage”.
