Christ With Us Stand Firm – For Protection from Earthquakes:
Saint John Chrysostom, during the great earthquakes of Antioch, instructed Christians to write “Χριστός μεθ’ ημών στήτω” on their walls. He meant: “Christ is with us, let our house stand, not fall.” Indeed, where Christians believed, not a single house cracked. Where they mocked, their houses fell!

Later, the faithful, imitating their suffering brethren in Antioch, would write “Χριστός μεθ’ ημών στήτω” above the main entrance of their homes, fully trusting in the protection of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary.

Talent – What It Is:
The “τάλαντο” or “hand-signal” is a long wooden board that may have three or five holes at its ends. The three holes symbolize the Triune God, while the five holes, shaped like a Cross, represent the human senses that should be ever watchful.

Talents and hand-signals were traditionally used in Holy Monasteries and Churches before the bell became common. Today, they are used exclusively in Holy Monasteries.
