A beautiful handmade icon depicting Jesus as the Bridegroom on the wooden cross. In Orthodox Christianity, Jesus is compared to the Bridegroom, as in His person, a sacred “marriage” between God and humanity takes place. At the same time, in His person, we witness the coexistence of both God and man. Therefore, Christ is also called the “Bridegroom of the Church.” Furthermore, the relationship between husband and wife is likened by the Apostle Paul to the relationship between Christ and the Church. In Christ’s person, we see His infinite love for mankind, for all of humanity, because only with this love could He make such a sacrifice—becoming a humble man, enduring suffering, and ultimately being crucified.
Icon on Canvas – Features
In the technique of printing on canvas, the monk-artist used a copy of a Byzantine icon and added embossed details. The icon is entirely handcrafted with an aging technique. The canvas is impregnated with plaster so that the colors of the image remain intact over time.
