In each monastery, the monks are assigned a specific task or ministry, and one of the most common ministries is the creation of handcrafted items. These are often sold to raise funds for the monks’ livelihoods and for the restoration of the Holy Monasteries of Mount Athos, many of which have been worn down by time. This particular wooden cross has been made with care and the exceptional woodworking skills of the monks, for which they are renowned.
